About

The practice

Cala d'Egos is the artistic practice of Bea Calafell, based in Mallorca.

The work explores the relationship between landscape, material, trace and time — through ceramics, drawing, research and teaching. It takes its name from a quiet cove on the island, the place Bea was born and the source the practice keeps returning to. Bea (Beatriz Calafell) trained in Ceramics and Plastic Arts in Barcelona.

Pieces begin in observation: sediment, erosion, the worn edge of stone, the changing light on water. These become surfaces, glazes and forms — objects that hold a trace of place rather than describe it. Alongside the making, the studio is a space for research and for teaching, sharing the slow attention that clay asks for.
